Welcome to the Faith & Freedom Africa online micro-course!

A free, introductory, online human rights course designed to raise awareness of, and support for, freedom of religion or belief (FORB) in Africa and further afield

This online course is intended to inspire a movement in support of FORB across the African continent. The need to defend and advance FORB in Africa and beyond is as important as ever.

Course trailer

The FFA online micro-course is a short-film-based human rights resource to introduce people to the concept of FORB, create awareness of its benefits to society, and encourage support for this fundamental human right.

Course contributors

The course is based on 4 short drama films produced by Empower Women Media. The films feature Nigerian actors from the African diaspora and FORB advocates from Nigeria. The latter include:

contributor-2
Felix Samari

FORB Trainer

contributor-1

Anne Abok

International Director, Mediate Campaign Against Human Trafficking

contributor-4

Gloria Ballason

Attorney & Journalist

contributor-3

Fr. Dr. Atta Barkindo

Executive Director of the Kukah Centre

contributor-6

Maryam Sambo

Attorney and Women’s and Children’s Rights Advocate

contributor-5

Sheikh Omar Muhammad

Policy Advisor and Peace Advocate

contributor-7

Patience Luka

Student and Advocate

Together, these Nigerian FORB advocates speak about the meaning and significance of FORB with an interfaith scenario playing out as the backdrop in each film. The films and accompanying lessons speak to the benefits of FORB for society, including peace and security, women’s empowerment, and economic development.

We are more divided and polarised than we've ever been. This is the time for us to find a way to live in religious harmony.

Although the drama films are set in the Nigerian context and feature Nigerian actors and commentators, the FFA online micro-course is a resource for encouraging awareness of and support for FORB throughout Africa and further afield. Nigeria is only one among several African countries where individuals and communities are facing FORB violations.
